MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard)

MDF, Medium Density Fiberboard, is a dense, engineered, composite panel product. MDF is made from sawdust and shavings byproducts of industrial milling, that are dehydrated, mixed with resin or glue and formed and compressed into panels under high heat.  MDF is a harder, smoother and denser option compared to plywood and particleboard due to the smaller wood fibers utilized to make it. MDF has a consistent light-brown color with no texture, wood grain or knots. The surface is flat, smooth, uniform ideal for machining, cut to size MDF, painting and laminating.

Medium Density Fiberboard Panels (MDF) is widely used in the manufacture of kitchen cabinets, commercial and residential furniture, retail fixtures and cut to size MDF components. It is the material of choice for most manufacturers looking for strength and consistency.

  • Light colored and a flat surface
  • Engineered for a smooth, unblemished surface
  • Homogeneous core for great machining and throughput
  • Higher density, made from compressed wood fibers
  • Available thicknesses 1/4″ – 1-1/4″

WHY COMPOSITE PANEL?

While the natural beauty of solid wood is unmatchable, it’s a unfortunately a pricey option for manufacturers. Fortunately, for many projects, there are less expensive substitutes that perform just as well if not, better than solid wood for a wide range of projects, including furniture, cabinets, shelves, toys, fixtures and more.

Composite wood panels possess a number of unique performance characteristics that set them apart from other materials as well as being a sustainable product. Composite panels are uniform in stability, strength and uniformity making them an ideal substrate for a wide range of applications in both residential and commercial environments.

Wood composite materials are ideal for decorative surfaces because they can be selected based on performance characteristics and physical properties, including strength, flexibility, moisture resistance and fire resistance.
